Merchants, company owners and workers attend a huge protest in Famagusta

Eastern Mediterranean University’s online education decision sparked shopkeepers and company owners in Famagusta.

Traders want EMU to invite its students to the island as soon as possible and start education. At least as the government permitted a dual system.

In addition, about 1,800 merchants in Famagusta and the surrounding areas announced that they would start a protest at 11:00 am on Friday in front of the Rector’s Office of the Eastern Mediterranean University.
In the issued statement, “It will not be the same as before. We need students to continue our lives, with sanitary conditions and hygiene, and we are ready to do whatever is our duty as Famagusta merchants.”
This measure will be supported by the university housing association, the union of taxi drivers, the union of merchants, the union of restaurants, hairdressers, bakers, the union of clothing stores, gas and fuel stores, the Union of Gasators, and many Famagusta dealers.
