Investor Bolot Akagan is released on bail

Lawyers for investor Bolot Akagan filed for a change of guarantee after the Supreme Court overturned the lower court’s detention order over the illegal betting sites case against Bulot Akagan on November 4, 2020.

The application submitted by the defense was evaluated in the Kyrenia Supreme Criminal Court.
The defendant’s lawyer, Akagan, stated that the appeals court had overturned his client’s imprisonment ruling.

The defense stated that if the defendant is secured pending trial, he will request parole.

The court that heard the request, referring to the Supreme Court ruling, considered appropriate to make a change to the guarantee.

The court decided to release the defendant Akagan pending trial in the case of unauthorized betting, as the two Cypriot guarantors signed 500 thousand Turkish liras on bail bonds and the defendant deposited 100,000 Turkish liras in cash.

Bulot Akagan was jailed in September 2019 in a multi-million dollar betting site and tax evasion case. It is reported that Bulot Akagan is one of the investors in the field of real estate and oil stations in Kyrenia.
