A total of 20,000 people applied to Al Salam Hospital for Mental and Neurological Diseases, the country’s only psychiatric hospital, in the first nine months of 2020.

In addition to the incidents of crime and violence that have increased in the country in recent years, concern about the Corona virus that appeared in March was reflected in the data of Al-Salam Hospital for Mental and Neurological Diseases. The number of admissions to the hospital with a capacity of 180 beds, serving acute and chronic schizophrenia patients. It is worth noting the dangerous rise in the number of adults and children who are hospitalized, especially in the first nine months of this year.

Speaking to YeniDuzen, the Major Doctor of the hospital, Abdin Akbergon, stated that the year 2020 was completely different compared to previous years and that “anxiety” and “fear of death” was observed in the community due to the epidemic.
