The United Nations Security Council calls for the revocation of the decision to open the closed Marash Coast.

The UN Security Council discussed in a closed session the decision to open the closed Marash coast to civilians.

In the joint statement issued by the UN Security Council after the meeting, it was stated that Varosha’s closed status remains valid in Security Council resolutions and that no action should be taken in accordance with these decisions.

“The UN Security Council is deeply concerned about the opening of the Marash coast, which was closed by the resolution issued by Ankara on October 6, and calls for a reversal of this measure and avoiding unilateral steps that would stir tension on the island,” the statement said.

The Council called for the respect and implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, and stated that it supports a lasting, comprehensive solution on the basis of a bicommunal federation with political equality in line with the wishes of the people of Cyprus.

The UN Security Council also called on the Cypriot parties and the guarantor countries to enter into a constructive dialogue after the elections in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
